The three-part series, “Cultural Awareness for Medical Assistants” provides medical assistants with an understanding of the challenges of providing care to a culturally diverse patient population, and describes strategies to address these needs.

After completing this course, the learner should be able to:
  • Explain the importance of providing culturally and linguistically appropriate care
  • Describe the CLAS standards put forth by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
  • Describe the 3 categories within the CLAS standards: Governance, Leadership and Workforce, Communication and Language Assistance, and Engagement, Continuous Improvement and Accountability
  • Explain how to establish and implement an action plan that recognizes and enforces the CLAS standards
