Cultural Awareness for Medical Assistants Part 3: Your Practice
America is a culturally diverse country with new immigrants arriving daily and those already here raising families. Unfamiliar languages, beliefs, cultural practices, eating habits, etc., can all present potential obstacles to the medical assistant providing care.
America is a culturally diverse country with new immigrants arriving daily and those already here raising families. Unfamiliar languages, beliefs, cultural practices, eating habits, etc., can all present potential obstacles to the medical assistant providing care.
The three-part series, “Cultural Awareness for Medical Assistants” provides medical assistants with an understanding of the challenges of providing care to a culturally diverse patient population, and describes strategies to address these needs.
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Describe the importance of providing culturally and linguistically appropriate care.
- Explain key, specific ways that you can take to ensure that you provide appropriate care to different ethnic groups, including people from Eastern Europe, The Middle East, Asia, and Latin America.
